YABATECH Signs MoU With Friesland Campina Wamco
Yaba College of Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Friesland Campina WAMCO Plc on research and academic exchange.
The management team of Yaba College of Technology at a courtesy visit to the 70 years old organisation signed the pact in which the managing director, Mr. Roger Adou stood for it.
The pact focused on how to strengthen the partnership between Yaba College of Technology and FrieslandCampina WAMCO with a view of bridging the gap between the town and academia, leading to review of curriculum that will suite the needs of the industry.
In his welcome address, the Managing Director, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigera PLC, Mr Roger Adou, stated that Friesland, for the past 70 years has been providing high quality dairy products through its brands, Peak, Three Crowns, Coast, NUNU, Olympic and have become household names to all Nigerians.
He added that, they are delighted that they can partner with such an institution like Yaba College of Technology which has been in existence for 77 years.
The Managing Director thereby lauds Yaba College of Technology on her milestone achievements. ” You are a leader in the field of distinguished education. Education that has worked for the country, and a company like ours”.
He noted that Yaba College of Technology made a talent an indelible for the society, by improving the students perfectly to serve FrieslandCampina and as well serving the country to make a better country. “We are delighted that this Memorandum you are going to sign is to make sure we collaborate”; he said.
The Human Resources Manager, FrieslandCampina, Mr. Raymond Naon, in his input, stated that the relationship between Yaba College of Technology and the corporate world can be a help to address all the issues in the system.
He said that, based on his past experience in the field, he was convinced that, collaborating with the Institution is something FrieslandCampina will have to do.
” When I visited Yaba College of Technology I was more than convinced that we need to go with the Institution for this partnership. So, I can only wish the Managing Director that this partnership will be pragmatic, we want to look at the partnership we can do on a 360degree basis of coordinating primarily and also how we can review curriculum”; he averred.
The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Engr Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, in his response, expressed his gratitude to FrieslandCampina WAMCO; stating that the institution has been looking up to such a very strong and vibrant partnership, because it is seriously needed by the Institution.
He said that his teams are aware that there is dynamism in industry and that the industry does not stay in one place, as a result of this, the teachers that are teaching also need to get into this dynamism, “because it is only what you know that you can give or pass into the system.
Dr. Abdul expressed further that it is very important for an administrator to ensure that he gives exactly what the students needs, so that they can translate it back to the system. “That’s why from the erect agenda, we have industry partnership”.
While appreciating the whole team that has been pushing for the collaboration, he affirmed that the institution is very lucky, because it’s just a dream come true. ” This is something we are out for and the benefits are enormous”, he said.
However, the Rector, while expressing the readiness of the institution to collaborate, he disclosed that the college will set up an Industry Advisory Committee in the different departments for the purpose of staff of FrieslandCampina WAMCO to mentor the staff and students and prepare the students for the needs of the industry.
In his remarks, the Manufacturing Director, FrieslandCampina WAMCO, Mr Lamidi Adekola, expressed his delight that the collaboration is another milestone in the history of both parties.
According to him, “ it’s a dream come true and that is to tell you that the future of Nigeria is guaranteed”
He encouraged both parties not to look at the current economy of the country saying ” If you have to collaborate and build the industry of tomorrow, it goes beyond what anybody can ever do and will leave behind, even when there is no one alive it will still acclaim us”.
