YABATECH Rector Highlights Leadership, Institutional Transformation As UNILAG Muslim Alumni Visit College
The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to using strategic leadership, institutional partnerships and people-centred development to reposition the College as a leading institution of technology and vocational education in Nigeria.
Abdul stated this while receiving members of the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni Association (UMA), Southern Chapter, who paid a courtesy visit to the College to felicitate with him and identify with the institution’s development strides.
The Rector described the visit as significant, particularly because it brought together members of the University of Lagos community with whom he shared educational, professional and personal relationships.
He said the reunion demonstrated the enduring relationships forged through education, noting that such relationships could continue to contribute to institutional development and national progress decades after graduation.
The Rector expressed appreciation to the delegation for its goodwill and for recognising the efforts being made to advance YABATECH.
He noted that the College remained committed to its historic responsibility as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions for technical and technological education, stressing the importance of ensuring that its programmes and operations remained relevant to the changing needs of society.
According to Abdul, the transformation of an institution requires not only physical infrastructure but also investment in its people, academic programmes, partnerships, innovation and sustainable sources of funding.
He therefore emphasised the importance of building relationships with alumni, professional bodies, industry, government and other stakeholders in order to create a stronger ecosystem for institutional development.
The Rector’s remarks came against the backdrop of commendations by the UMA delegation, which described him as a positive example of leadership and commended his administration’s emphasis on accountability, transparency and development.
Abdul expressed gratitude for the confidence demonstrated by the delegation and said the College would continue to welcome constructive partnerships capable of advancing its mandate.
He particularly acknowledged the importance of alumni associations in strengthening educational institutions, noting that alumni remain important stakeholders who can contribute expertise, networks, resources and goodwill to the development of their former institutions.
The Rector’s interaction with the delegation also underscored the importance of institutional leadership that combines academic development with staff empowerment, stakeholder engagement and responsible administration.
Earlier, the chairman of UMA Southern Chapter, Alhaji Lanre Bakare, said the delegation was at YABATECH primarily to felicitate with Abdul and to demonstrate the association’s care and solidarity with him as one of its members and ambassadors.
He commended the Rector for opening up greater opportunities for staff development, including participation in professional conferences and training programmes.
Bakare said the administration had also expanded YABATECH’s academic frontiers through the introduction of new areas of study and the establishment of additional centres.
The chairman described Abdul as a leader whose achievements had been more evident through the developments taking place in the College.
He stressed the importance of accountability, transparency and service to humanity, noting that the purpose of the visit was to identify with the Rector and encourage him in his service to education and the nation.
