Use Your Skills To Shape A Brighter Future, YABATECH Rector Charges Graduates
The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, has urged graduates of the Alakija Skills Acquisition Centre to embrace lifelong learning and use their acquired skills to uplift themselves and their communities.
He made this call during the 5th Graduation and Exhibition Ceremony of the Centre.
Addressing the forty-seven (47) graduates from various vocational disciplines, including plumbing, fashion design, cake making, and shoe production,
Dr. Abdul emphasized that their certificates symbolize transformation and readiness to tackle the world.
“The skills you have acquired and the projects you exhibit today are your stepping stones to greater achievements. Embrace lifelong learning, strive for excellence, and use your talents to shape a brighter future for yourselves and others,” the Rector charged.
He highlighted the importance of creativity and innovation, as reflected in the exhibition of graduates’ work, noting that each showcased piece demonstrated effort, vision, and potential. “These creations are not just products; they are a testament to your hard work and a glimpse into a brighter, empowered future,” he said.
The Chairman of the occasion, Otunba Samson Odunsi, a retired Major General, stressed the importance of vocational skills in fostering self-reliance and economic growth.
He described skills acquisition as a lifelong investment with unending benefits.
In her remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Dr. Stella Mofunanya, Rector, Redeemers College of Technology and Management, advised the graduates to be diligent, intentional, and hardworking as they venture into entrepreneurship.
Dr. Mofunanya, who was represented by Mr. Onwiko Adebayo, a senior lecturer, said that the expressed values are essential for navigating the challenges of the business world successfully.
Coordinator of the Centre, Mrs. Ogbonna Comfort, in her welcome address hinted that the 47 graduates had excelled in their respective training areas of plumbing, fashion, and confectionery, and were now equipped to create opportunities for themselves.
“This graduation is a celebration of their hard work, determination, and creativity, and we are confident they will make meaningful impacts in their communities,”she said.
