Utilise N174.4m Research Fund For The Purpose It Was Granted – UNIOSUN VC Charges Dons
Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Prof. Ọdúnayọ̀ Clement Adebooye has charged scholars who won about One hundred and seventy-five million naira (N174,456,101.71) awards and grants to utilise the fund for the purpose for which they were awarded.
Adebooye who spoke Monday at the official presentation of letters of award to the winners of the 2023 TETFund National Research Fund and International Grants at UNIOSUN main campus, Osogbo noted that the grants are expected to have far reaching implications and contribute to the global body of knowledge.
According to him, the various grants are not just financial support for project execution, they are also investment in the future and potentialities of research as a major driver of knowledge and tool for societal transformation.
The grants are #43.9m Francophone Cultural Enclave in Anglophone Yorubaland: Migration, Language and Cross-border Trade in Ejigbo Nigeria won by Dr. Toyese Najeem Dahunsi, #30m, on Mitigating Youth Restiveness in Nigeria (MiYouRest): won by Prof. John Osayere Agbonifo of Dept. of Sociology,
The N29.8m on Effects of Government Policies on the Economic Activities and Livelihoods of Women in the Southwestern States of Nigeria won by Dr. Moromoke Nimota Raji of Dept. of Guidance and Counselling.
While the N29.5m grant on Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation of Animated-Learning Package for Climate Change Education in Pry Schools won by Dr. Adebola Oladiji Alaba of dept. Arts and Social Science Education.
Others are: N22.3m on Exploring Novel Biochar-Compost Soil Amendment and Remediation Technology for Plant Health Improvement in Fadama Cropping Systems in Southwestern Nigeria won by Prof. Onyegbula Chike Nwoke of dept. of Agronomy, #18.7m on Development of a LoRa-Based IoT Real-Time System for Smart Multi-Campus Waste Management in Nigeria, won by Prof. Caleb O. Akanbi of dept. of Computer Science.
The VC noted with delight that compared to 2022 when UNIOSUN won just two NRF grants with a total value of N36m (thirty-six million), in the 2023 grant cycle UNIOSUN leap-frogged to six awards with a total value of over N174,456,101.71 (one hundred and seventy-four million) an increase of 486%”.
