Protection: Terrorists Levy Katsina Community N10m

Terrorists operating in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State have demanded a sum of N10m from Gobirawa community over the alleged killing of one of their members by a farmer on the outskirts of the community.

The spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah, who confirmed this on Friday, explained that the terrorists threatened to kill all the residents of the community if the ransom was not paid.

Gambo said, “The report that some terrorists demanded N10mn from a community in Katsina is true. I stated it in the statement I made available to newsmen today.”

He explained that the problem began in October, when one of the terrorists,  belonging to a faction group of Hamisu, attacked a farmer, identified as Yahaya Dandai, while working on his farmland located on the outskirts of the community.

It was learnt that the attacker was killed by the farmer, who overpowered him and dispossessed him of his AK-47 rifle during the fight.

But Dandai, who failed to report the incident to the police, informed and handed over the rifle to his ward head who contacted the leader of the terrorist group.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved ringleader mobilised his men and launched a hunt for Dandai, who was eventually killed. The ward head who earlier went into hiding had however been arrested by the police after declaring him wanted.
