Students Protest Death Of Colleague In Ogun
Students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu – Ode on Wednesday protested the death of their female colleague who was crushed to death by a moving truck along the Benin-Ore-Lagos express.
Our correspondent observed that the protesting students barricaded the ever busy Benin-Ore-Lagos expressway with big logs and burnt several disused tyres to register their displeasure over what they termed as gruesome murder of their female colleague.
Their protest, which lasted several hours following their refusal of all entreaties by security operatives, community leaders including some monarchs within the Ijebuland however, prevented human and vehicular movements along expressway.
It was learnt that a hit-and-run truck had Wednesday afternoon, crushed to death, a female student of the institution while going to the school on a commercial motorcycle popularly called “okada”.
Ogun state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Clement Oladele, who confirmed the crash, said the deceased was identified as Kofoworola Toibat Kuku.
Stressing that the commercial motorcyclist escaped death in the crash which occurred around 12: 15p.m Wednesday, Oladele further explained that corpse of the late female student, Kofoworola was evacuated by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and deposited at the Ijebu – Ode General Hospital morgue.
As of the time of filling this report, the state’ Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered immediate deployment of anti-riot policemen to the area to disperse the protesters.
He added that no arrest has been made yet either on the part of the hit-and-run truck driver or the protesting students.
