Saudi Clubs Strongly Interested In Troost-Ekong-Romano
Some of the clubs in the Saudi Arabian Professional League are strongly interested in snapping up Nigerian defender, William Troost-Ekong ahead of the summer transfer window.
Italian Transfer Market expert, Fabrizio Romano on Friday revealed this in a statement and said the interest is as a result of Troost-Ekong’s wonderful performances for Nigeria.
“Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong caught the attention of clubs in Saudi due to his impressive performances in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON),” Romano stated on X.
“He has been leading PAOK to the top of tha Greek Super League and Europe Conference League, he is very happy there but the Saudi interest for the summer is such a strong one.”
Troost-Ekong vas vital for the Super Eagles in reaching the final of the 2023 AFCON after battling through a pulsating penalty shootout in a thrilling semi-final encounter against South Africa.
He put Nigeria into a 67th minute lead from the penalty spot after Victor Osimhen was brought down in the 18-yeard area and the centre-back also netted the second spot kick for the Eagles during the shootout.
Troost-Ekong’s experience was brought to the fore again against the Bafana Bafana who are perhaps the toughest opponents the Eagles have faced so far in this competition after demonstrating aerial dominance and winning several long balls.
The PAOK Thessaloniki of Greece central defender was, however, issued a yellow card by the referee in the 120th minute but that did not take anything away from his excellent performance.
