Court Clears Lagos PDP Chairman, Salvador, Others Of Murder
Justice Obafemi Adamson of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday discharged the Lagos State’s Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Moshood Salvador in a murder allegation case brought against him by the police.
Salvador, was released by the court alongside 10 other persons charged with him over the murder of the PDP chairman in Apapa Local Government Area of the state, Adeniyi Aborishade.
Aborishade was allegedly murdered on July 21, during the PDP’s “visitation meeting” that held at Igbosuku Village, Eti-Osa LGA.
The judge freed the defendants following a Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP advice which exonerated them of the allegation of murder by the police.
Those freed along with Salvador include Kehinde Fasasi, Rotimi Kujore, Fatai Adele, Ismaila Abiola, Amos Fawole, Victoria Falowo, Mukaila Odukoya, Oropo Isaac, Mohammed Babangida and Ugochukwu Nwoke.
Justice Adamson said in view of the advice from the office of the DPP, which exonerated the politicians from murder charge, they should be released from prison custody forthwith.
It would be recalled that the police had charged Salvador and nine others before Yaba Magistrates’ Court for murder of Borishade Adeniyi and the matter was adjourned till August 27 for DPP advice.
However, counsel to the Lagos PDP Chairman, Lawal Pedro (SAN), challenged his remand order and sought a discharge of the charge, among others, at the high court.
When the case was called on Tuesday, an Assistant Director from the DPP, Olaitan Soetan, informed Justice Adamson that there was a “development” regarding Salvador’s prayers.
The vacation judge’s attention was drawn to the DPP’s report to the lower court which recommended the defendants’ be discharge for want of evidence.
Pedro confirmed the development and told the court that “the matter has been overtaken by circumstances.”
The lawyer further urged the court to dismiss the charge.
