Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc In Osun  

Property worth millions of naira were Wednesday evening destroyed by rainstorm at different locations in Osogbo, Osun State .

The affected areas included, Agunbelewo, Woru, Oke-Baale, Gbonmi, Isale-Osun, Kelebe, Ofatedo, Igbona, Oke Onitea among others.

No fewer than fifty houses, Stores and shops had their roofs blown off while electricity poles, fences and even houses were pulled down during the rainstorm that started at about 7:00 pm and fell for almost two hours.

In some instance, wooden and steel containers were carried from one location to the other thereby distorting built environment in many cases.

Traffic was obstructed by electric poles, that fell across Kajola, Balogun, Oke-Baale, streets while the affected areas remained in darkness as a result of power outage.

Although, there was no report of human casualty as at the time of filling this report, those affected were seen either packing their belongings out of damage buildings or doing minor repairs as the case may be.

Confirming the incident, General Manager, Osun State Emergency Management Agency OSEMA, Oluyemi Olanipekun Olanrewaju said the agency has directed the affected people to come forward to make official complaint for necessary action.

He assured them of government intervention within a short period of time, urging residents to always check the conditions of their roofs so as to avert future reoccurrence.

He however lamented lack of funding to make provision for intervention in anticipation of such natural disaster.
