Railway Corporation Begins Demolition Of Houses At Agege
The Nigerian Railway Corporation has begun demolition of structures along its track corridors at Pen Cinema, Agege in line with its new vision of giving the people best rail transport system.
A visit to the area Wednesday saw heavy weight caterpillars demolishing structures shortly after Pen Cinema down to Mangoro area where a lot of buildings including hospitals were pulled down.
Some residents who were ignorant of the demolition exercise had been inquisitive about the development. They were seen discussing in the matter in groups.
Resistant that would have followed the mass destruction could have been unprecedented but smiles were seen on the faces of some people who knew that necessary compensations have been fulfilled to owners of the structures.
A call to the Department of Public Relations, Nigeria Railways Corporation confirmed that the demolition being carried out is aimed at enabling NRC functions effectively through the provision of standard railroads.
Reacting, a middle aged man in the area popularly called, the doctor said: “These demolitions are being carried out by Nigeria Railway Corporation to pave way for the development coming into the system. I have an unsubstantiated notion that they intend to build their quarters in this area and if not, they may be having the intention of building modern rail with a lot of space and create a distance from the other buildings that are not part of their own”.
