Policemen Arrested For Killing 20-yr-old Lady In Lagos
Barely two weeks after Kolade Johnson was reportedly murdered by Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan at Onipetesi, Mangoro area of Lagos State, other trigger-happy policemen have shot dead a young lady, Adaobi Ojide Ifeanyi, while her boyfriend, Emmanuel Akomafuwa, is receiving treatment in a hospital from a gunshot injury.
Adaobi and Akomafuwa were returning from a nightclub in the early hours of Saturday when they were flagged down by policemen attached to Trinity division at Wilmer area of Ajegunle.
It was gathered that the duo ran into a problem when Akomafuwa, who drove the vehicle didn’t immediately stop when asked to by the policemen, which led to their being chased by the officers.
The source said when they were eventually caught up with, the officers reportedly shot at the vehicle and the young man was hit in his head.
“On seeing that her boyfriend, Akomafuwa, had been shot at, Adaobi protested, to which the policemen shot at her also.
“Unfortunately, Adaobi died on the spot while the boyfriend is currently receiving treatment in the hospital for gunshots injury he sustained on his head.
According to a relative of Adaobi, Divisional Police Officer, Trinity Division and the Commissioner of Police visited Adaobi’s father to commensurate with the bereaved family.
Sequel to the incident, Lagos State Police Command has arrested five police officers involved in the shooting of Adaobi and Emmanuel Akomafuwa.
The five policemen arrested are Inspector Adamu Usman, Sergeant Adeyeye Adeoye, Sergeant Kashim Tijani, Sergeant Lucky Akigbe and Sergeant Paul Adeoye while Inspector Dania Ojo, who escaped immediately after the shooting incident, has been declared wanted by the command.
Confirming their arrest, DSP Bala Elkana, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State, said the Commissioner of Police has vowed that the perpetrators must be punished.
He said: “Members of the team suspected to be involved in the shooting are from Trinity Police Station and are currently facing internal disciplinary proceedings at the Command Headquarters Ikeja. Their rifles have been retrieved for forensic analysis by ballisticians. “The Commissioner of Police extends the command’s deepest condolences to the family and friends of Adaobi Ifeanyi and promised to foot the medical bill of Emmanuel Akomafuwa.
The CP calls for calm as the command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice prevails.”
