Police Begin Trial Of Detained Female Cop
The Lagos State Police Command has begun the trial of a policewoman, Fauzziyah Isiak, who was reportedly detained after tendering her resignation letter.
But the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said Isiak absconded from service and her orderly room trial had commenced and might be concluded on Friday (today).
“The trial has not been concluded. The trial will likely be concluded tomorrow (Friday),” the PPRO stated.
Isiak took to her Twitter handle on Thursday, @fauzziyahshoney, to share her ordeal.
“I never saw this coming. I have never thought I will be put in detention without interrogation. All I did was try to resign. I have been trying to resign from the police since last year but my letters were not approved.
“My boss had called me to show up yesterday, May 24, to meet the deputy commissioner for an interview. I thought they were finally going to approve my resignation but the only words I heard was that I should be detained to be tried and dismissed. Due to the shock, I couldn’t say anything as the officer led me away,” she tweeted.
She lamented that she had not changed clothes, shoes and her sanitary pad while she had been experiencing severe headache.
But Hundeyin, in a statement titled ‘Setting the records straight,’ said Isiak had not been given a discharge certificate.
He said it was one thing to turn in a resignation (letter) and “another thing for the application to be processed, upon which you receive your discharge certificate.”
He stated that absence from duty for 21 days without leave or permission automatically resulted in being declared a deserter, saying “Every serving member knows this.”
He further explained, “Corporal Fauzziyah Isiak, who serves in the office of the Imam of the Command, without leave, permission or discharge from service, absconded from duty for over a month, in flagrant disregard for the conditions of service she willingly signed to.
“For this offence of indiscipline, she was detained yesterday for the commencement of her orderly room trial today (Thursday).”
Hundeyin also said the cop had violated the force’s social media policy.
