Ooni To Rally Leaders Against Insecurity In South West

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, yesterday, promised to rally the six governors of the South West states, and the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, to tackle the prevailing killings and kidnappings across the region.

The monarch made the promise during the celebration of the 2024 Oodua Festival, organised by the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Ooni, who was represented by the Obalufe of Ife Kingdom, Oba Idowu Adediwura, said the killings of two monarchs in Ekiti State, were a bad omen and a pointer to the fact that Southwest was becoming too volatile.

The Ooni lamented that some bad elements were making the region unsafe.
He promised to do everything possible to get the nod of the governors to involve Iba Gani Adams in securing the region.

Ooni said: “It is time to use what we have to get what we want. We want peace in Yoruba land. We want effective security of lives and property. We want to sleep with our two eyes closed. I am sure the Aare Onakakanfo has a role to play.

He has what it takes to tackle the security challenges as he has been transforming the region through his cultural promotion activities for the past two decades.”

In his remarks, Adams called for a holistic approach to solving the security scourge across Nigeria. He said the situation on the ground would require the political authorities to involve the traditional institutions in the efforts to curb insecurity, saying: “With this done, the security challenges in Yoruba land would be reduced drastically within six months.”
