Ooni Proffers Solution To Insecurity In Nigeria
Apparently worried on the spat of insecurity bedeviling the nation, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi has called for the provision of statutory community policing policy that will motivate traditional rulers across the country to work officially with government to mitigate the current overwhelming insecurity situation.
The monarch who condemned the heinous attack on three Monarchs in Ekiti State leading to the untimely death of two of them noted that traditional rulers are better equipped with ancestral power that are efficacious till date and capable of incapacitating the wicked people troubling the nation.
Oba Ogunwusi in a statement released yesterday by his director of Media and Public Affairs; Otunba Moses Olafare insisted that traditional rulers remained the closest leaders to the people saying that monarchs are not coward but only needed to be statutorily involved.
“We know the traditional techniques to get rid of all these unfortunate situation, We are no cowards and we are ready to rise to the occasion defending our traditional land. Get us statutorily involved and see that what we inherited from our respective ancestors are still intact and real.” Ooni said.
The Ooni commiserated with families of the deceased monarchs, the people of Imojo-Ekiti and Esun-Ekiti, the government and Ekiti State council of Obas and Chiefs, describing the incident as a sacrilegious audacity deliberately planned and executed to undermine security capacity of Nigeria.
He admonishing Governor Oyebanji-led state government and President Tinubu-led Federal government to expedite thorough investigations into the barbaric act and ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
“Assassinating traditional rulers in cold blood! This is absolutely unacceptable to us. If this could happen to the traditional rulers, what would then become hopes for their common subjects who look up to them for local security interventions?”.
“This is a pure sacrilege and it is a deliberate display of criminal audacity to undermine the government’s security control capacity. This reprehensible act has not only robbed us of noble leaders but has also left a scar on the fabric of our unity and peaceful coexistence as a Nation”.
The monarch also charged government both at states and federal levels to show practical capacity in the area of security management and operations adding that they must stop at nothing to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and made to face justice.
Recall that the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, Elesun of Esun-Ekiti in a terroristic ambush on Monday January 30, 2024 were gruesomely killed while returning to their respective domains from a peaceful routine meeting in Oke Ako, Ekiti State.
