Omo-Agege: No Provisions To Suspend Serving Member, Says Ibrahim
A twist may have occurred in the unfolding saga in the Senate, as the senator representing Katsina South, Abu Ibrahim, Friday declared that there is no concrete provision for the suspension of serving senators in the laws guiding the activities of members on the floor.
He said: “There are provisions for punitive measures and I looked at it, there was no specific area where it was agreed that we can suspend ourselves.”
Ibrahim also said the recent crisis in the senate that led to the invasion of its plenary by suspected thugs and the stealing of the mace was a blessing in disguise, as the untoward development provided members the opportunity during their closed door session to take a critical look at the security architecture of the National Assembly Complex, described by many as being porous.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the weekly Juma’at prayer session at the Villa Mosque, Abuja, Ibrahim also revealed that the President Muhammadu Buhari Support Group would on Monday next week inaugurate offices in Edo, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states for the purpose of prosecuting the forthcoming re-election process.
