NURTW Crisis : National Body Dissolves Ondo Council

In a bid to find a lasting solution to the leadership crisis rocking the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Ondo State chapter ,the National leadership of the union in Tuesday constituted a four man committee to pilot the affairs of the state  pending the time of reconstitution of a new executive for the union in the state.

Addressing members of the union in Akure, the state capital on Tuesday, the National President of the union , Najeem Usman Yasin, said the constitution of the caretaker committee became imperative following the resignation of the union Chairman in the state, Chief Ariyo  Adetula.

Yasin,  who was represented by the National Vice President of NURTW, Ambassador Adegboyega Tomori, said the four man caretaker committee which will be headed by Tomori also included Kayode Agbeyangi, Akin James and Jacob Adebo (Idajo).

He said they took the step in order not to create any vacuum in the leadership of the union and also to maintain peace in the state.

In his address, the  South West Chairman of the union,  Alhaji  Taofeek Oyerinde (Fele) ,urged the members of the union to maintain and sustain the existing peace in union in the last seven years.

Oyerinde said ” with the help of the National headquarters of out great union under the able leadership of out President, Alhaji Najeem Yasin, we have been able to ensure that peace reign in all the state councils in the zone

“The recent event in this state where the state council has been factionalised is very disturbing, presently  there are about four different factions struggling for the control of themselves council.

“The decision of the National leadership of the union to step and prevent the situation where various factions will turn the state to battlefield and destroy image of the union is not acceptable

“The National headquarters in its wisdom at nipping the problem in the bud in the state dissolve the state executive who will direct the affairs of the union and find laying platoon to some of the problems confronting the state council.”

The zonal Chairman however, advised the members of the union to go about their business peacefully and stay away from any act that can lead to breakdown of law and order in the state.

He said, the union will not hesitate to deal with anybody who breaches the law of the land.
