Nigerians Deserve Good Governance In 2018- ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday, said that Nigerians need good governance in the New Year rather than the blame game championed by the President Muhammadu Buhari led government since 2017.

The ASUU chairman, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr Deji Omole said this while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, saying there will be no basis for any blame game in the new year as the ordinary Nigerians have sacrificed a lot for this nation by enduring various anti-poor policies imposed on them by the ruling class.

Omole pointed out that the time has come for the governments at the state and federal levels to reciprocate by providing good leadership and investing consciously, transparently and heavily in the key sectors of the economy, especially education and energy, where the masses can benefit.

“That the ordinary Nigerian has sacrificed a lot for this nation by enduring various anti-poor policies imposed on them by the ruling class is an understatement.

“Government at state and federal levels should reciprocate by providing good leadership and invest consciously, transparently and heavily in the key sectors of the economy, especially education and energy, where the masses can benefit” he said.

Omole stressed that in the New Year, Nigerians don’t want to hear about cabal stories as President Buhari must confront corruption without borders.

According to him, it is unfortunate that the President’s men are being shielded from corruption probes, adding that it was a dangerous trend which played out in 2017 which must not be replayed in 2018.

“Corruption should be confronted without borders because in Nigeria today, government officials are not only corrupt, but have made corruption official. What we expect is good governance, not blame game.”
