Nigeria Beat Morocco At African Handball Championship, Now To Face Egypt
The Nigerian under-18 women team on Wednesday at Monastir in Tunisia defeated their Moroccan counterparts 28-14 in the quarter-finals of the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship.
The Nigerian side comfortably won the first half with a 12 points difference at 17-5.
In the second half, their opponents fought back well to limit the Nigerians to an 11- 9 win.
Chidera Ogwumsimba of the Nigerian team was later voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match.
Speaking after the match, Shittu Agboola, the coach of Nigeria, said it was a victory well-deserved.
” They girls were determined to win the game at all cost and they gave a good account of themselves in the game.
“But we cannot rejoice yet because we still have the semi-final match to play. We pray we win the game with the help of God,” he said.
NAN reports that the victory has made Nigeria to also qualify for the first time in history for the 2024 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship which will hold in China.
Nigeria will now face Egypt in the semi-finals on Friday.
The competition, being the 19th Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship, got underway on Saturday and is expected to end this Saturday.
