Insecurity: Monarchs Want Mining Activities Suspended In Osun
Just as Osun State government is making frantic efforts to ensure security of lives and property against the backdrop of recent rise in security challenges in the state, traditional rulers in Ijesaland have called for the stoppage of mining activities in the area.
Besides, the monarchs drawn from the six local government areas of Ijesaland also called on government to stop issuance of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to anyone without the consent of community leaders.
Rising from a meeting convened by the Senator, representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi at Iloko Ijesa, Oriade local government area, the monarchs in a communique contended that this measure would go a long way in checkmating criminality.
According to the communique read by the Owamiran of Esa Oke, Oba Adeyemi Adenitan urged goverment to put a task force that will work with security agents, local hunters and vigilante group in place to provide security.
Earlier, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi who attributed the rising cases of kidnapping in the state to lackadaisical attitude of the populace reminded them that security is a business of everyone.
His words: “they operate freely and reside with us in our communities. We virtually abdicate in our traditional duties and responsibilities as landlords, and land owners.
“In most cases, we bluntly refused to screen these illegal immigrants into our lands and communities just because of the small and ridiculous stipends they dangle into our greedy long throats.”
“Consequent upon above two factors and other contributing variables, coupled with the leadership carelessness and government lukewarm attitude to guide jealousy the Land Use Decree of 1978, we virtually neglected and isolated these strangers and illegal immigrants to live alone on our lands without any hindrance or checks and balances”, Fadahunsi asserted.
