Monarch Laments 30 Years Neglect Of Ajaokuta Steel Complex

The paramount ruler of Ebira Land in Kogi State, Dr Ado Ibrahim, has urged the Federal Government to revive the nation’s Ajaokuta Steel Company.

Ibrahim who lamented the neglect of the company by past administrations, disclosed this at the just concluded 2017 edition of the African Gems and Jewellery Exhibition and Seminar, AGJES, held in Abuja.

He stated that, ‘’it was sheer abandonment of the nation’s ‘engine room’ of industrialisation for massive job creation and economic prosperity over the years.’’

According to him, over 3, 000 workers were redundant with indescribable hardship for them and their families since the complex was abandoned.

He said: “There is one thing the Minister said I am happy to hear and something which will give a golden name for your whole life and that is Ajaokuta Steel Company.

“Yes, I come from there as the paramount ruler and I have seen it on the floor for 30 years, whether dead or in comma. But from what you told me today, I think it was in comma and likely to come alive again. ‘’A project like Ajaokuta Steel Company for 30 years lying down not utilised, the nation is not ashamed of it? While expressing his passion for the sector the monarch urged the federal government to ensure that the company was revived, adding that he would remain grateful when the company comes on stream again.

“If you do this I will write your name first in bold golden letters that will be all over my domain.

“Let me make it clear that there is a great need for us to take serious steps against illegal mining in the country.

“We have to decry it because it demoralises the integrity of Nigerians, especially in the area of industrialisation.

“The Ministry of Interior should support the battle against illegal mining. If you want my support, I will give you my support. The largest illegal miner is still in my state, what is the Minister doing about it?’’
