LP Crisis: Lamidi Apapa Berates NLC Over BoT Appointment

Labour Party (LP), faction loyal to Alhaji Lamidi Apapa has described the inauguration of the party’s Board of Trustee (BoT) Caretaker Committee by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as illegal and unconstitutional.

It also warned the leadership of NLC to desist from illegal act capable of setting Nigeria on fire

The National Publicity Secretary of the Party, loyal to Lamidi Apapa, Abayomi Arabambi, who said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, called on the leadership of NLC to immediately vacate its National Secretariat, saying that the NLC President, Joe Ajaero does not have monopoly of violence.

It added that the party is prepared to explore all legal means to rescue itself from the unconventional and unconstitutional occupation of its Secretariat by NLC, stressing that the continuous occupation of the national secretariat is an aberration, adding that the law that established the Labour Party differs from that of NLC.

Arabambi warned that the party will ensure that it puts a stop to the continued meddling in the internal affairs of Labour party by the NLC.

He noted that “there is no where in the Constitution or Electoral act that empowers the NLC to administer Labour party.

Arabambi said, “the occupation of Labour Party Secretariat and the purported inauguration of BoT of Labour Party under Ajaero is a planned political insurrection against democracy, inordinate and expansionist agenda of Joe Ajaero towards his 2027 presidential ambition.

“NLC President has failed to aquint himself with the letter and dictates of Labour Party Constitution , Electoral act and the Constitution of Nigeria, which is a demonstration of gross indiscipline and a display of incompetence.

“For the records, BoT shall be appointed by the National Executive Council and Labour Party has never at any time during any NEC meeting appoint BoT members.

He said “Joe Ajaero as an NLC President is not a financial member of Labour Party, hence, the Coup detat orchestrated by him against the party leadership through the appointment of a ‘kangaroo BoT’ should be dismissed and discountenance with immediately.

“The function of BOT does not include declaring the seat of the National Chairman and members of the NWC vacant as such constitute impunity, gross indiscipline , manifest incompetence and political rascality.

He described Joe Ajaero as a meddlesome interloper who has no business in the affairs of how Labour party should be governed.

“The NLC must obey this directives as they lack the constitutional power to appoint any BoT for LP since the party’s Constitution emphatically stated that there shall be a board of trustees of the party (BOT) which shall be appointed by the National Executive Council.

The party also reminded Ajaero that only members of the Board of trustees shall elect a Chairman and a secretary from it’s members who shall also be members of the National Executive Council.

Reacting to the party’s Presidential candidate at the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi’s comment on why he ignored the convention conducted by Julius Abure, Arabambi described Peter Obi as mischievous.
