Libellous Statement: Osoba Sues Okurounmu, Demand N3b Compensation

Barely a week after the former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba charged an Afenifere Chieftain, Senator Okurounmu to court over an alleged libellous statement, Okurounmu has been served with the Writ of Summons to appear before the Ogun State High Court.

Okurounmu personally received the Writ of Summons, attached with Statement of Claim on Thursday, November 14, 2019.

Osoba had on Friday, November 8, filed a suit, marked AB/493/2019 through his counsel, Wole Olanipekun SAN, alleging that Okurounmu in an interview published by a national daily described him as a “traitor and double-faced politician” who betrayed the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, late Chief MKO Abiola.

The former Governor in the suit demanded N3b damages and also sought an order of the court directing the defendant (Okurounmu) to tender unreserved apology and render unequivocal retraction of the “malicious publications.”
