Leverkusen Coach Alonso Hails Boniface As A Complete Player
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has hailed Victor Boniface as a complete player following another powerful performance by the Nigerian striker over the weekend.
Boniface scored in each half to help Leverkusen beat newly-promoted Darmstadt 5-1 in a German Bundesliga encounter that took place at the BayArena on Saturday.
Boniface after being set up by Jeremie Frimpong opened the scoring with a superb solo effort on 21 minutes, slicing through the Darmstadt defence before elegantly chipping the goalkeeper.
Darmstadt equalised shortly after, Exequiel Palacios scored straight after half-time to make it 2-1 while Boniface got his brace with an assist from Florian Wirtz in the 61st minute.
Boniface thereafter went from scorer to provider with the 23-year-old setting up Jonas Hofmann to score the fourth goal for Leverkusen in the 67th minute of the German top-flight tie.
Coach Alonso after the match praised an impressive performance by the newly-invited Super Eagles striker while speaking to the official website of Leverkusen on Sunday.
“Victor is not only a good striker, he is a complete player. And you can see on and off the pitch, then he gets on very well with his teammates,” the Spaniard said.
Boniface also spoke after the victory. “We are very happy about the win. We fit in really well with each other and if we carry on like this, then we will have lots more joy together,” the Nigerian said.
Boniface, who cost around £20m to purchase from Union Saint-Gilloise this summer, scored his first league goals for Leverkusen in a 3-0 win away to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend.
He netted in the German Cup in an 8-0 win over Teutonia and bagged an assist on his Bundesliga debut when Leverkusen began their 2023/24 season by beating RB Leipzig 3-2 at the BayArena.
The Nigerian striker has already reached seven goal contributions in only four appearances across all competitions for his new German club-side.
