Kano Govt Assures Support To Students In Federal Varsities
The Kano State Government has assured indigenous students studying at various federal and state universities in the country of support.
It said Dr Yusuf Kofar Mata, the Commissioner for Higher Education, disclosed this when he received the Kwankwasiyya Students Forum in his office.
He said that arrangements by the state government had reached advanced stage to extend financial support to its students currently in various federal and state universities.
He also said that the present administration had invested significant resources in education, amounting to billions of Naira aimed at providing potential and skilled resources personnel to ensure the state had visionary leaders.
The commissioner listed the interventions to include settling indigenous students studying at BUK, sponsoring 1001 foreign students, and subsidising 50 per cent of fees for all indigenous students studying at state-owned tertiary institutions.
According to him, Gov. Abba Yusuf is exploring possible ways to extend similar gesture to students of federal universities soonest.
The universities in consideration, he said, included Federal University Dutse, Federal University Kashere, Federal University Dutsinma, ABU Zaria, Federal University Gusau, University of Maiduguri, University of Jos, Law students, and Umaru Musa Yar’adua University.
He confirmed that the ministry had forwarded the request to the government.
“We have already made a proposal and submitted it to the governor for his blessing, and we have contacted the management of your institutions,” Kofarmata stated.
He therefore urged the students to devote themselves to their studies and not to allow any persons or groups to use them for acts of indiscipline or political thuggery.
He thanked them for the visit and enjoined them to continue praying for peace to reign supreme in the state and Nigeria.
Earlier, the President of the association, Mr Yusuf Kumbotso, commended the state government for its laudable programmes that directly contributed to human capital development.
Kumbotso however appealed to the governor to support indigenous students studying at federal institutions by settling their registration fees in view of their economic predicaments.
