Jigawa Gov Signs Electricity Regulatory Commission Law
Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has signed the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission law to enhance electricity regulation and access.
Recall that earlier this year, the state government created the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy to provide reliable and inclusive energy solutions for the state’s residents.
It was learnt that the law, which emphasised collaboration through Public-Private Partnerships to improve energy infrastructure and service delivery aimed to boost electricity access for residents, fostering an environment conducive to private sector investment in the power industry.
The commission is tasked with overseeing electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, and supply within the state.
While signing the law on Monday at the Council’s Chamber, Government House, Dutse, Namadi stressed the importance of the law, saying, “This law is a vital step towards sustainable development and economic growth in Jigawa State.
“The Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission will regulate various electricity solutions, including grid, mini-grid, and off-grid systems, utilising both renewable and non-renewable energy sources. This comprehensive approach will address the state’s growing energy demands.”
The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the state’s energy needs, citing it as essential for Jigawa’s development.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening electricity regulation and promoting innovative energy solutions.
Namadi added, “The creation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy earlier this year demonstrated our administration’s focus on energy development with Dr. Sirajo Musa, as the pioneer commissioner to driving this initiative forward.
“The establishment of the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission is expected to improve electricity availability and stimulate economic growth across the state. This development aligns with the federal government’s comprehensive electrification plan.”
