Court Jails Man 1 Month For Contempt
An Osun State Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced one Kayode Soyemi, (52) to one month imprisonment over contempt of court.
Magistrate Ishola Omisade said the jail term would serve as deterrent to others who might have the mind of disrespecting the court with impunity.
Kayode Soyemi had absented himself from court contrary to the order of the court that he should be coming on every adjourned days.
Omisade, however, gave an option order of N10,000 to Ishola Omisade.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Christian Olajide, an Inspector of police had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Dec 17, 2018 around 09:00 am at Ile-Ife Chief Magistrates’ Court 1.
Olajide said that the convict absented himself from court when his case MIF/310/2018, Commissioner of Police Vs Kayode Soyemi was called.
He added that the convict was not there contrary to the court order that he should be coming to court on every adjourned day.
According to him, the offence contravened section 133 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsels, Mrs Innocental Akhigbe however pleaded to the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that her client had never defaulted except for Dec 17, when he came late to court.
