Iree Community Wants Due Process In Selection Of Monarch

Iree Council of Elders in collaboration with Iree Progressive Association (IPA) has appealed to Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola to ensure due process in the appointment of a new Aree of Iree in Boripe North Local Development Area of Osun State to forestall violence.

Addressing newsmen in the company of Aree in Council in Iree on Monday, the chairman, Iree Council of Elders, Engr.Adenrele Afolabi condemned the process of using Warrant Chiefs by the local government to fill the vacant stool of Aree of Ireeland.

He described as unacceptable the system of jettisoning all the authentic six king makers to appoint a monarch adding that it ran foul of the existing culture and tradition of the town.

The immediate junior brother to the former Minister of Internal Affairs, Chief S. M. Afolabi maintained that, the selection of a king is only the responsibility of the kingmakers and not the civil servants or government officials.

He noted that every measure is being adopted by elders of the community to douse tension and prevent the breakdown of law and order that could lead to violence.

Afolabi however further appealed to indigenes of the ancient town at home and in the diaspora, especially youths to maintain the peace and tranquillity Iree is known for under the prevailing circumstances.

One of the kingmakers, Chief Saliu Atoyebi said against the norm, kingmakers were not allowed to be part of the selection of one Prince Raphael Ademola who was purportedly picked by the Warrant Chiefs.
