Interior, Justice Ministries To Partner To Decongest Prisons
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday, said that the ministry will partner with the Ministry of Justice to decongest prisons all across Nigeria.
Tunji-Ojo disclosed this in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) after his interaction with the media where he provided key insights regarding his strategic vision for the agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
He also highlighted ten key things he intends to achieve in the post with the decongestion of prisons very important to him.
“We are working on a collaboration with the Ministry of Justice to decongest correctional homes,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He said his ministry is also working on the decentralization of passport application centres across the country as well as the integration of feedback mechanisms within their system.
Tunji-Ojo stated that he would revisit and review all third-party agreements within the ministry, reduce human interference, and downsize service providers where necessary.
“We will sanction saboteurs within various agencies under the ministry, domestication of the production of passport booklets will also see the light of day,” the minister said.
He also spoke about relieving the burden of the Army through the efforts of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Tunji-Ojo added that the ministry of Interior is working towards reducing passport processing awaiting period to only two weeks.
The former lawmaker also said that his ministry will do everything within its power to improving fire service response time to 15 minutes.
