WASCE: Ikpeazu Gives N1m Each To 3 Best Performing Abia Students
As part of events marking the 27th anniversary of the creation of Abia State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has honored the three best performing West Africa School Certificate Examination (WASCE) students from each of the Senatorial zones of the state.
The three students who received cash gifts of N1m each from the Governor are: Master Kalu Ifeanyi of Ofali Agwu Secondary School, Ohafia, Master Ogbonna Dike of Ehere Community Secondary School, Aba and Master Ezera Samuel of Government College, Umuahia.
Speaking while handing over the cash gifts to the students on Monday, 27th of August, 2018, Governor Ikpeazu expressed delight that Abia State has maintained first position in WASCE, back to back, for 3 years.
According to him, “I cannot give awards to all our brilliant children but I want to use these 3 to tell them that the sky is indeed the stepping stone for each and everyone of you”.
He assured that his administration will continue to mainstream education through the provision of adequate infrastructure, retraining of teachers and encouragement of high performing students and teachers within the Abia school system.
Reacting to the development, a teacher at Government College, Umuahia, Mr Iheanacho Enwerem, attributed the success of Abia State students at the Exams to the educational policies of the Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration which put education as both its Pillar and Enabler in the developmental priorities of the state government.
While thanking the governor for his generosity to the students, Mr Enwerem said that the motivation of the teachers in handling the students is based on the sincerity and transparent system of the governor’s leadership, saying that the cash gift to the students will further spur them and others on to even greater successes.
The event which was graced by the crème la crème of Abia State from all walks of life held at the State’s prestigious International Conference Center, ICC, Umuahia.
