Hoodlums Attacks Ebonyi Journalists, One Killed

Tragedy struck at Nkalagu, Ebonyi state, Saturday, as hoodlums attacked on a team of Ebonyi Journalists returning from their annual convention which took place at Abeokuta, Ogun state which left one dead and others sustained serious injuries.
Samuel Nweke who worked with the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, EBBC and was also Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ in the state died during the attack while one of the injured journalist is Mr Peter Okutu of Vanguard newspapers who drove the NUJ bus, his currently receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital Fetha.
It was gathered that some armed bandits intercepted their vehicle along Nkalagu axis and ordered them to lie down on the expressway when another vehicle on high speed ran over them and killed Sam Nweke on the spot while other occupants of the vehicle sustained various degrees of injuries from matchet cuts from the armed robbers.
Governor David Umahi has expressed great shock over the death of the Vice Chairman of the Ebonyi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Samuel Nweke and commiserated with his immediate family and the union.
He expressed optimism that security agencies will carry out full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and bring the perpetrators to book while praying God to grant his soul eternal rest.
