Bode George To PMB : You Must Be Guided By Noble Tradition Of Politics
Former national vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Chief Olabode George on Monday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be guided by the noble tradition of politics where discipline, fair play, respect for order and equity are the watchwords.
Speaking at the PDP South West Stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, he said the nation’s democracy cannot and must not continue along the present flawed, demeaning path.
According to him, Nigerians must return to the path of rectitude, saying “We must strengthen this delicate democratic process with basic adherence to truth, decency, honour and ensuring rights for all no matter how lowly placed they are.’’
In his address that dwell on , “The Yoruba People and the Road To Golgotha”, he noted that never in the history of the Yoruba people “have we found ourselves in this mournful passage.
“Our traditional cohesiveness is gone. Our sweeping etchings of truth, honour and balanced equitable fixities are equally eroding, disfiguring and being destroy by a new ethos of personal pursuit and selfish absorption.’’
On the party’s convention slated for Port Harcourt next Saturday, George who chaired the meeting stressed the need for the delegates to put the interest of the zone above their personal interest.
He urged the delegates to demand from the presidential aspirants what plans they have for the people of the South West.
“We must never throw away our votes without getting firm and binding commitments from the. Our people should never be taken for granted again. Never,” he said.
George appealed to members to eschew bitterness and rancour, saying “let us return to the ways of our ancestors.
“Let us increase the bond of amity and accommodating largeness. Let us support each other. Let us embrace our traditional integrity and defining image of Omoluabi,” he said.
Also speaking, the party’s national chairman (South), Yemi Akinwonmi decried the outcome of the Osun and Ekiti State Governorship Election, saying they were robbed of victory.
He called on the party leaders to ensure that the stolen mandate was reclaim through legal means.
While noting that the South West was in political wilderness, he stressed the need for members to unite and work together to ensure that the party reclaim the zone in 2019.
“Because we did not unite, we lost everything in 2015. We should do away with personal interest. We must do everything possible to reclaim power for the development of South West,” he said.
