Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has described the loss of five members of the Nwigwe family of Urunnebo, Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, as “painful”.
The Nwigwe family was involved in a tragic road crash on September 16 while returning from holy pilgrimage to Olo in Enugu State.
The crash left the head of the family, Hyacinth Nwigwe, with a broken leg.
The deceased are wifwe’s wife, Francisca; three children: Chisom, Ebubechukwu, Ifechukwu; and a house-help.
The governor, who was represented by the Head of Service, Harry Uduh, spoke during the burial ceremony for the victims on Saturday.
Obiano said: “What can you tell a man that lost his wife and four children? It is a very painful loss.
“I believe in my heart that there is nothing God cannot do. He will surely give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
“The government and Anambra people are standing with you at this moment of grief.”
Obiano gave an assurance that the state government would render assistance to take care of the family’s immediate needs.
In her condolence message, the wife of the governor, Ebelechukwu, urged the widower to take solace in God.
Ebelechukwu said: “Take heart and be strong in faith because God in His infinite mercy kept you alive for a good purpose.”
