Glo empowers subscribers to borrow data, makes international calls more attractive

Nigeria’s total telecommunications service provider, Globacom, on Tuesday launched a new product, Glo Borrow Me Data, and boosted three other existing ones.
The network disclosed at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday that the three repackaged products are Double Free Tomorrow, 11k/s for All and IDD Packs.
The company said it was motivated to enhance the benefits of the three products because they became hugely successful.
With Glo Borrow Me Data, subscribers can borrow Data credit of up to 2GB whenever their data bundles are exhausted or in cases of unsuccessful subscription bundle activation due to low balance.
Globacom’s Head, Usage and Retention, Sola Arowogbadamu, explained that customers will be eligible to enjoy the service on the strength of how long they have been on the network as well as customers’ average monthly data usage.
Arowogbadamu said customers can subscribe to Borrow Me Data by dialing *321# after which they should follow the menu prompts.
He added that this will enable the service to push real time Data credit to all eligible customers in line with the stipulated eligibility criterion.
Consequent upon this, the customer will repay the Data credit whenever he replenishes his airtime.
With Double Free Tomorrow, customers get back 200 per cent of any amount spent on calls, SMS or data today to use on all the platforms for free the following day.
Under the re-packaged offer, Globacom will calculate all the value of airtime a customer expended in a day for internet services, phone calls and SMS and credit the customer’s phone with double the value at the beginning of the following day.
The network disclosed that the bonus can be used for practically anything, including browsing or calls and SMS to Glo and non-Glo lines, and can equally be used for international calls to countries such as US, UK (fixed), Canada, China and India.
The Double Free Tomorrow offer is available to all existing and prospective prepaid customers on the Glo network and other subscribers who desire good value for money.
Arowogbadamu explained further: “If a subscriber on the Glo network uses N500 credit in a day on calls, SMS and data, Glo will give back N1,000 credit to the subscriber the very next day to call all networks, SMS and browse free.”
The offer will be available as default for all new customers activating a Glo line.
The third offer, 11k/s for All, according to the company, is the most cost-effective prepaid plan in the Nigerian telecoms market today.
With the product, calls are charged at 11k/s to all local networks and for international calls to 30 top destinations including United Kingdom, United States, Canada, South Africa, India, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Israel, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, French Guiana, Guam, Luxembourg, Malta, Mongolia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Puerto Rico, Reunion Island, Romania and Singapore.
New and existing customers can have access to the unprecedented call rate which is available at a daily access fee of N5 by dialing *211# to migrate to the plan.
The grandmasters of data promised its teeming subscribers more benefits when they port from other networks into its network.
It assured them of a welcome bonus of N500 Glo-Glo talk time and N500MB data consequent upon first single denomination recharge of N500 or higher.
They will as well receive 500MB complimentary data for the next six months after porting to Globacom once they use a minimum of N1,500 per month.
The fourth product, which is New IDD Packs, is reputed as the most competitive deal in the industry in Nigeria.
It covers calls to the previously listed major international destinations for just N6.60 per minute and also comes in bundles designed to match the recharge denominations.
These include IDD 100, IDD 200, IDD 500 and IDD 1,000.
The IDD 100 gives the subscriber 12 minutes of call valid for three days, while IDD 200 gives 24 call minutes for seven days.
With IDD 500 bundle, a customer will get 60 minutes of call for 14 days, just as the fourth bundle, IDD 1000, gives customers 150 call minutes valid for 30 days.
“The 30 destinations covered by the new IDD packs include United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, India, China and Japan,” Globacom said.
