FECA Matriculates 412 Students For 2017/2018 Academic Session
The Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA), for the first time since the college was established in 1957, matriculated 412 students for the 2017/2018 academic year.
According to the school authourity , the figure is apart from Higher National Diploma (HND)II and National Diploma(ND)II Students which facilitated the increment in students population.
The Provost of the college, Dr. Samson Adeola Odedina, in his address as the ceremony, admonished the students to shun cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse and other vices, warning that the collage would not condone such habits.
Odedina who hailed the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for approving five additional new courses for the institution, urged the students to be disciplined and dedicate themselves to studies to achieve academic excellence.
According to the Provost , the additional courses include ,National Diploma Computer Science, National Diploma Forestry Technology, National Diploma Fisheries Technology, National Diploma, Horticulture and Land Scape Design and Higher National Diploma, Pasture and Range Management.
Odedina enthused that the institution now has 13 academic programmes for National and Higher National students, stressing that the management of the college was encouraged by the youth who have voluntarily chosen FECA go advance their career in Agriculture.
His words: “the College has continued to focus on her pursuit of excellence in teaching, value chain training, research and service to the society as enshrined in the college’s watchword of ‘Agriculture with Result.
“The Federal College of Agriculture, Akure has continued to focus on her pursuit of excellence in teaching, value chain training, research and service to the society as enshrined in the college’s watchword “Agriculture with Result.
“To this end, your decision to study Agriculture is the best any youth can make in Nigeria more so that the Government of Nigeria is diversifying the Nation’s economy and tackling youth employment through Agriculture.”
Odedina added that, “It is quite disheartening to see youths being persuaded to embrace agriculture; however, I am pleased today, to see quite a number of you who have voluntarily chosen agriculture as a field of study. It should be noted that other youths will not embrace agriculture, if you do not succeed in this noble profession. You must therefore be determined to make your choice of agriculture as a field of study a success.
“It is worrisome to note today that in Nigeria and the world at large are infested with so many social vices and youths have lost the virtues of hard work, morality, honesty, punctuality and so on.
“As leaders of today and tomorrow, learn how to settle issues among yourselves without resorting to physical fighting; the Hall warden, Students Union Government (SUG) and the Dean of Student Affairs are always available to intervene when necessary. Fighting on campus is automatic expulsion.
