Fayemi Joins Ekiti 2018 Governorship Race
The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Saturday formally declared his intention to contest the July 14 governorship poll in Ekiti State, saying he was in the race to complete unfinished state businesses.
Addressing state executive members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), his admirers and party supporters at the state party secretariat in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, the former governor said the party will employ all legal and constitutional means to wrest power from Fayose-led Peoples Democratic Party government in the state.
Fayemi who said his second coming was to rescue the state from pangs of poverty accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of running anti-people government.
“We are on the march again. Not into it for personal reasons and ambition but for the duty to the people. Our state is desperately in need of a rescue mission.
“I have unfinished businesses in our state, we have to reclaim our land and restore our value. We are daily being insulted, assaulted and abused by the present government in the state. We are here to free our people from bondage and oppression. That is why I am here. Politics is not about suppression and dominion, it is about service to the people.”
Fayemi played down Fayose’s white paper which barred him from holding political office and stopped him from contesting election in the state.
“We want to inform you that we will not abandon our people. We will sacrifice whatever enjoyment for the emancipation of our people. Fayose white paper that says Fayemi has been banned is a tissue paper. You know what it is used for. It is time to come back and assist our vulnerable people.
“I see pains and pangs of poverty among the people not knowing where their next meal will come from. We have a red card for the man who is saying he has a white paper, if we are united we will return to power in the state”.
The former governor who regretted that all projects he initiated while in the saddled had either been cancelled or abandoned, said there is no town or villages in state that you will not see the work of his government.
“In every towns and villages, you see our touches in terms of health centres, palace construction and renovation, schools, electricity projects, road constructions among others. The works are left till date where we stopped. The present government never continued where we stopped”.
Assuring that whoever emerges will be supported by other aspirants after the party primary, he said” We will do all that it takes to return to power. Be it top, middle or bottom power. All I know is that power belongs to God and He knows the right person that will use it to the benefit of the people. We will have credible, genuine, fair and free election on July 14, 2018″.
Fayemi who donated N5 million naira to the state chapter of the party and N100,000 to each of the 16 local government urged members to continue supporting the party to reclaim power in the state.
Responding, the state deputy chairperson of the party, Mrs. Kemi Olaleye promised that the party will continue to create a level playing field for all contestants.
Olaleye added that the party will conduct a free, fair and credible primary that will be acceptable to all aspirants vying for the position under the platform of the party.
