Family Health Initiative Synergizes With Ogun Govt On Healthy Living For Women
Family Health Initiative Ogun, (FAHIO), a Non-Governmental advocacy working group, in conjunction with Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has concluded arrangements to create more awareness among women folks on the benefit of childbirth spacing to improve their wellbeing.
The Chairperson of FAHIO, Mrs. Kemi Balogun made this known during an advocacy visit to the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape at her office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
Balogun, in a statement signed by the FAHIO’s Spokesperson, Mrs. Waliyat Odemakin, said that women deserved healthier living particularly during their childbearing period, adding that adequate knowledge and information on modern family planning methods would allow them to determine the most convenient period of getting pregnant.
“We have discovered that women of childbearing age need enlightenment on modern ways of planning their family, pregnancy is expected to be by choice and not by chance,” Balogun emphasized.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the group, Revd. Olajide Odugbemi, said the Organization was focused to ensure improved reproductive health outcomes in the State, increase in the uptake and access to quality services to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) to the barest minimal.
“Efforts have been made in advocating stakeholders to surmount challenges that can prevent women from accessing effective family planning. Based on this, FAHIO has achieved in ensuring creation of Budget line for Family Planning, influence the domestication of Task-Shifting and Task-Sharing policy to address shortage of health skilled provider on family planning services, established the costed implementation plan on Family Planning and influencing the supply of consumable to health facilities in the State”, Odugbemi stated.
“Responding, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape said promotion of programmes that would add value and quality to the lives of women and families remain the focal point of the Ministry, emphasized the need for sensitization and education as an avenue to make women realize the essence of family planning.
Efuwape assured that the organization to count on her support, and pledged to influence other philanthropists on the provision of more consumables to health facilities in the State.
Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Hon. Adijat Adeleye said that all available avenues would be explored to better the lives of women, children and families in the State, noting that women were an important ingredient in achieving an equitable, peaceful and more prosperous society.
