Ekiti Assembly Constitutes Committee To Probe N10bn Supplementary Budget
Ekiti State House of Assembly on Tuesday constituted an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the ten billion naira supplementary budgets passed at the twilight of the immediate past administration.
About 16 members of the Assembly were said to have sat to approve the supplementary budget.
The Ad-hoc committee is chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Olusegun Adewumi with Hon Akinniyi Sunday and Hon Fajana Ojo -Ade as members.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Assembly, Rt Hon Adeniran Alagbada and other lawmakers have commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for cancelling the education tax imposed on public and private school pupils by the immediate past administration.
The lawmakers gave the commendation while deliberating on the effect of the cancellation at the House plenary in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
Alagbada described the abrogation of the education tax as a burden taken away from the people and prayed that God will continue to abide with the governor towards leading the state on the right path.
The House Leader of Business, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan, who led the debate on the cancellation of the education tax, said Ekiti people had earlier rejected the tax.
Hon Aribisogan reminded that a religious organization has criticised and instituted legal action against the then government on the matter
The Minority Leader, Hon Akinniyi, in his contribution posited that the cancellation had make Ekiti people happier adding that the action was a demonstration of Governor Fayemi’s love for Ekiti people.
Other members of the House including Hon Cecilia Dada, Hon Ojo – Ade, Hon Adedeji Michael and the Deputy speaker, Rt Hon Adewumi noted that the introduction of the tax had contributed to the development of the education sector but praised Governor Fayemi for its cancellation.
They described the action as a step in the right direction and stressed that it would go a long way to reduce the burden on parents.
The lawmakers unanimously approved the commendation as moved by the leader of Business, Hon Aribisogan and seconded by the Deputy speaker, Rt Hon Olusegun Adewumi.
