Educationist Advocates Better Training For Teachers
As Nigeria join the rest of the world to celebrate World Teacher’s Day over the week, an educationist, Mrs Omolara Adedugbe, Executive Director of MD School in Lagos, has called on the Federal government to give more priority to teacher training in the country.
Mrs Adedugbe who spoke amidst preparations for the celebration of her school’s 40th anniversary, said the government must prioritize improving teacher training and preparation. She maintained that elevating educator quality is the most critical factor in upgrading the overall standard of the education system, for the country to be ready for the demands of the evolving landscape of the new world.
“I think that government needs to pay better attention to the training of teachers, as a matter of priority.”
Mrs Adedugbe who frowned the state of affairs in terms of the quality of attention the country currently pays to the training of it’s teachers, cautioned that “teachers need to be well trained, equipped and ready” for the educator demands of the evolving landscape of the new world.
” I don’t see much of that at the moment. We are not paying enough attention. Government need to pay better attention to the training of teachers as a matter of priority.”
Mrs Adedugbe further maintained as a nation, we must realise that meeting the demands of the standard of education that is required in new global landscape, is inversely dependent on the quality of our teachers. “So I think we need to get it right.”
Giving update on the preparations to celebrate the milestone of the school’s ruby anniversary, the Executive Director said “all is set to give thanks to God for what the school has achieved these past 40 years, despite the challenges it has gone through.
“By the grace of God, it’s going to be a joyful celebration. A wonderful celebration of our school’s cherished heritage and a fitting tribute to it’s legacy 40 years of excellence.”
