Police Kill 1, Nab 3 Kidnappers After Gun Duel In Ogun
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu who paraded the suspects before newsmen in Abeokuta, said operatives of the Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad (F-SARS) arrested the suspects before they could get their victims.
Iliyasu, who gave names of the three suspects as: Yussuf Abdullahi, Ali Mohammed and Audu Isa explained that the suspects on the trail of two business men whose names were simply given as Alhaji Shehu and Alhaji Kabiru either for robbery or kidnapping.
He explained that the trio had a record of carrying out deadlier operations both in the Northern and Southern parts of Nigeria.
“On the 12th of July, 2018, intelligence reports revealed that some armed bandits, who are specialists in kidnapping and armed robbery. The F-SARS operatives technically trail the bandits and accosted them in Abeokuta before they ever got to their targeted victims.
“On sighting the policemen, they engaged them in gun battle, but were later subjected to the superior fire power of the police. At the end of the gun battle, one of the suspects was shot dead”.
Iliyasu however stated that Items recovered from the suspects included: seven AK-47 riffles, two pump-action guns with seven magazines, 110 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition as well as 100 rounds of live cartridges.
Stressing that the suspects were responsible for several kidnapping and robbery operations in several northern and southern states, the CP further said that the suspects have given useful information to the police regarding their various intents, escapades and planned actions in Ogun state.
Speaking with journalists during interrogation, one of the suspects, Audu Isa confessed to earning N25, 000 and N1 million in the first and second outings of his kidnap operations respectively.
