Driver Docked For Alleged Theft Of N3 Million Car
A 37 year-old cab driver, Owolabi Opeyemi, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla car, valued N3 million.
Owolabi, a resident of 12, Robert Oyakhilome Street, Palmwill Estate, Remlek; Badore, Ajah, Lagos, was arraigned before the court presided over by Magistrate F. Onamusi by the men of  Ajah Police Division, Lagos, on a count charge of stealing.
Arraigning the driver, the prosecuting Police Officer, Inspector Balogun, told the court that stole the said car marked AAA-654 FKJ, silver colour, 2010 model and registered with Taxify, an online taxi operator, few days after it was given to him.
Balogun told the court that the driver when contacted of his whereabouts by the complainant, Ndidiamaka Emilian Agada, on several occasions, do tell her that the car had been stolen
The prosecutor told the court that the police succeeded in tracking the car’s movement since the complain was lodged and the driver was arrested while still driving the car early this month around Ajah area of Lagos State.
He told the court that the offences committed by the driver, contravened section 287 (7) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The driver however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following his plea of not guilty, the prosecutor asked the court for a trial date, while also urged the court to remand him in the custody of Nigerian Correctional Service, formerly Nigeria Prison Service.
The presiding magistrate, Ominusi, with the plead of driver, admitted him to bail of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum. Who must provide evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State government and means of livelihood.
Magistrate Onamusi, ordered that the driver be remanded till the fulfilment of the bail conditions, while adjourned the matter till August 28, for trial.
The charge marked P/33/2019, against the driver reads: “that you Owolabi Opeyemi ‘M’ sometimes in the month of July 2019, at No. 12 Robert Oyakhilome Street, Palmwill Estate, Remlek, Badore, Lagos, in the Lagos State, Magisterial District did steal one Toyota Corolla with Reg. No. AAA-654FK silver color, model 2010, valued N3,000,000.00 (three Million Naira) property of one Ndidiamaka Emilian Agada ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015”.
