 Ogun Advises Creche Operators On Basic Hygiene

Operators of Creche and Day care Centres in Ogun State have been advised to practice basic health and good hygiene in their various crèches in addition to registering with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

      The Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluranti Oladehinde, gave this advice during a one day capacity building workshop for Daycare Centre Operators in the State, held at the Women Development Centre, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Dr. Oladehinde who was represented by the Director, Child Development Services, Mr. Kehinde Egbeolowo, through the Press Officer of the Ministry, Mrs. Kemi Peter’s, noted that the Ministry was empowered by the Child Right law of 2003, Section 163 to 173 to clamp down on all unregistered crèches in the state, adding that the registration was to ensure standard in their operations.

Earlier, the guest lecturer Mrs. Tayo Esther, a Nursing Officer in the State Service, emphasized that basic health and good hygiene should be maintained in and around crèches to avoid respiratory tract infections that could spread in several ways.

Mrs. Tayo emphatically discouraged care givers from force feeding the children, saying this harmful practice that many mothers engaged in could further destroy the eating habit and appetite of children and could result in choking.

While responding, one of the participants, Mrs. Sukurat Abudulkareem, appreciated the State government for organising such an educative workshop, appealing to government to further assist them by clamping down on schools equally operating crèches in their vicinity, thereby hindering the registered crèche operators from flourishing.
