COVID-19: Ebonyi House Of Assembly Donates April Salary

The Members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Wednesday, donated their April 2020 salaries, to Ebonyi State Government to use in fighting the scourge of Coronavirus in the State.
A motion to that effect was moved under matter of urgent public importance, by the Deputy Speaker and Member Representing Onicha East Constituency, Rt. Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa, and seconded by Hon. Christian Usulor (Ezza South), Chairman House Committee on Education.
He said “In this State, we have taken proactive measures, the leader of the State, our party and the Government, His Excellency Engr. David Umahi has taken measures and as we speak, the news is everywhere that Ebonyi State has the best testing machines for this pandemic. These machines were even procured before Coronavirus came here, that is what is called being proactive.
“We’re a very responsible House of Assembly. Our people elected us here, not because of our own personal aggrandisement, but to ensure that they’re given the necessary backing, support and protection when the need arises. I rise this morning to appeal to my colleagues for us to seat and pause a while and think about our constituents, families and other Ebonyians who are vulnerable out there. No one knows what could happen next, but I’m convinced that the measures taken by the State Government and of course the Coronavirus Committee set in place which is headed by the Governor and of which our Speaker is one of them, I am sure that with all their efforts, this thing will be combated successfully.
“It is on this premise Mr. Speaker, my dear colleagues, that I do hereby move a motion that this Honourable House do pass our own support and encouragement to the State Government and our people, that we do donate our April salaries to the Coronavirus Fundraising Committee to continue with the fight against the pandemic. I hereby move, to the glory of God the Almighty.” – Odefa said.
The motion was supported by other members.
