Court Remands 3 Over Alleged Assault

An Osun State  Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife Tuesday remanded Awotide Oluwasegun, (38), Olamide Adesina, (25) and Rahmani Adeyemi, (40,) over alleged assault occasioning harm and threatening with violence.

They however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of peace leveled against them after they had agreed to face trial in the court.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 7, 2019 around 5:00 am at Sen. Iyiola Omisore House, off Ede Road, Ile-Ife.

He said that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit: assault occasioning harm and threatening with violence.

Osanyintuyi added that the trio threatened one Agboola David with gun and cutlasses while in meeting.

According to him, the defendants inflicted severe injuries on Agboola David’s two hands.

The prosecutor stated further that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner that could cause the breach of public peace.

Besides, Osanyintuyi alleged that the defendants paraded themselves as a member of Eye Confraternity, which caused apprehension and chaos to the neighborhood.

He explained that the offence contravened sections 86(2), 249(D), 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Bolaji Adewale, applied for the bail of the defendants in most liberal term with the assurance that his clients would not jump bail but provide responsible sureties

Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi did not grant the bail of the defendant, but adjourned the case until July 25, for ruling on bail.
