Court of Appeal grants Jegede leave to appeal judgement

The Court of Appeal has granted a factional candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Ondo State governorship election, Eyitayo Jegede, leave to appeal the judgement that shut him out of the election.
The court said since the judgement of the lower court that recognized Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the PDP affected him, Jegede has the right to appeal the ruling.
While the Jegede belongs to the faction of Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Ibrahim is of the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had recognized Ibrahim as the candidate of the PDP based on the ruling of a court.
However, INEC did not monitor the primaries that produced Ibrahim, which was held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The electoral umpire, however, monitored the primaries that threw up Jegede as candidate.
It was held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
