Court Remands Lecturer Over Sex For Mark
A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday refused to grant bail to a former Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) lecturer, Professor Richard Iyiola Akindele, who is standing trial over alleged demand for sex from his student, Monica Osagie.
Justice Maureen Onyetenu in her ruling ordered the embattled lecturer to be remanded in Ilesa prison custody until the next date of adjournment fixed for Dec. 17 for bail consideration and to allow more evidence from the prosecution counsel on whether or not to grant bail.
Onyetenu ordered the prosecution counsel from the ICPC to produce video evidence of the lecturer and his Student having fun.
The Senior Legal Officer, ICPC, Mr Kehinde Adetoye had prayed the court to deny the defendant bail on the ground that he won’t stand his trial when released.
Adetoye said the defendant had refused to appear in their office at Abuja after a written agreement to honour any invitation extended to him particularly when he returned from abroad after a medical trip.
The Defense Counsel, Mr Francis Omotosho, had told the court that his client should be granted bail pending the final determination of the case.
Omotosho said a 14 paragraph affidavit in support of the bail application had been forwarded to the court with a written address.
He said the applicant counsel must prove with material and concrete evidence against his client what was being alleged.
The embattled lecturer was first arraigned before Justice Maureen Onyetenu on Nov. 19 by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on four counts bordering on alteration of age and demanding sex to pass his student.
