Confusion In Ibadan, As Suspected Kidnappers Abduct Lekan Balogun’s Twins
Suspected kidnappers on Thursday afternoon struck at the Akobo, Ibadan residence of the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Sen.) Lekan Balogun and went away with his set of twins, a boy and a girl, aged five years.
Although available information about the sad incident was still sketchy as of the time of filling this report, it was learnt that the mother of the children was hospitalized owing to the trauma experienced.
The state police command, when contacted through its spokesperson, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Superintendent of Police (SP) denied the incident, but promised to investigate and get back to our reporter later.
Impeccable source close to the family told our reporter that the suspected kidnappers said to be two in numbers came in a vehicle parked very close to the victim’s residence and whisked away the children alongside their mother as they moved out of the house to go to the neighbourhood.
The source said the kidnappers, pointed a gun at the hapless mother and her children, ordered them into the vehicle, drove them round the city for a while during which the handset found on the woman was snatched, the sim card removed while the empty phone was returned to her before the woman was pushed out of the vehicle at a yet to be disclosed place.
Mrs. Balogun was said to have dejectedly trekked back home and made phone calls to her husband, who hurriedly ran home.
It was further gathered that when the kidnappers finally put a call through to High Chief Balogun, it was the same sim card removed from his wife’s phone that was used, making it extremely difficult to track the hoodlums as it was later discovered that the number being used was an in-house one.
