Club Underscores Importance Of Competition, Organises Debate For Schools In Ogun
The Crystal Mayor Club of Abeokuta has underscored the importance of organising academic related competitions for schools in defined areas of the State to promote learning and academic excellence.
Dropping this advisory at the 8th anniversary of the Club in Soyoye, Abeokuta North local government area of the State, on Saturday, President of the Club, Engr. Tajudeen Adisa Olori rued the absence of competition amongst primary and secondary school students.
Olori, who confirmed that thirty-one out of the forty-two schools invited turned up, said the events competed for include: English recitation; mock news casting; quiz and debate.
The President’s view was corroborated by the Secretary of the Club, Engr. Sobowale Sobola, who lauded the “healthy competitive spirit which the students brought into the events.”
“We want to relive the days when we were in that category as learners. What we had then helped us immensely in our careers, especially in the Organised Private Sector where you either fit in or fizzle out.
“Competitiveness of this nature makes the students to be determined, it enhances scholarship because they will want to outdo each other when they meet. In the workplace later in life as adults, competitions like this sharpens the champion and propels the average students to aspire,” Olori stated.
Participating Schools which registered their names on the score sheets include: Standard Nursery and Primary School, Soyoye; Community Pry School, Mile 2; Owu Baptist Day Pry. School, Ita-Iyalode; Pat. International College; Standard Model College ; African Church Grammar School, Liberty Nur/Pry. School; Brightway Nur/Pry School; St Peter’s College; Premier Grammar School; ROHI Nur/Pry School and ANLG Nur/Pry School all in Abeokuta North local government area of the State.
In a goodwill message to the event, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Aikulola Olu.Ola, lauded the initiative of the Club for “taking us back to reminisce on the good old days when we travel across the state to feature in this kind of competition”
Olu.Ola, who spoke through the Zonal Education Officer, Abeokuta North local government, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, said government was willing and ready to partner Clubs, Associations and Organizations like Crystal Mayor, which are ready to up the ante of their corporate social responsibility to incorporate educational advancement programmes.
He commended the organisers, especially Engr. Olori, who according to him, has brought his experience from the oil and gas to bear on the activities of the Club ever since he became the President.
