CJN Inaugurates 23 Judges Wednesday
Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Olukayode Ariwoola, will, Wednesday, swear-in 23 newly appointed judges of the Federal High Court.
A statement by Director of Press and Information at the Supreme Court, Dr Festus Akande, said the judges will be inaugurated at the main courtroom of the apex court at 11:00 a.m.
The new judges are: Dipeolu Deinde Isaac (from Ogun State); Ogundare Kehinde Olayiwola (Ekiti); Agbaje Olufunmilola Adetutu (Lagos); Musa Kakaki (Kaduna); Abdullahi Muhammad Dan-Ige (Sokoto); Sharon Tanko Ishaya (Kebbi); Salim Olasupo Ibrahim (Ogun); Yilwa Hauwa Joseph (Gombe); Wigwe-Oreh Chituru Joy (Rivers); Owoeye Alexander Oluseyi (Kogi); Anyalewa Onoja-Alapa (Benue); and Amina Aliyu Mohammad (Katsina).
Others are: Abiodun Jordan Adeyemi (Kwara); Hauwa Buhari (Federal Capital Territory); Aishatu Auta Ibrahim (Borno); Hussaini Dadan-Garba (Bauchi); Ibrahim Ahmad Kala (Gombe); Mashkur Salisu (Zamfara); Onah Chigozie Sergius (Enugu); Egbe Raphael Joshua (Bayelsa); Ariwoola Olukayode Jnr. (Oyo); Ekerete Udofot Akpan (Akwa Ibom); and Ogazi Friday Nkemakonam (Ebonyi).
Meanwhile, a group, National Coalition Against Terrorism (NCAT), called on the CJN to direct that all judgments by election petition tribunals in the Southeast be relayed electronically.
National coordinator, Terrence Kuanum, at a conference in Abuja, said the demand became necessary to save judges from threats to their lives.
The group warned that decisions by the judges could be compromised if they are forced to operate under duress. It also expressed fear that members of the secessionist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) may unleash violence if they find verdict of the tribunal in Abia State unfavourable.
NCAT said: “Intelligence gathering and information reaching us show that IPOB and other criminal elements are preparing to foment trouble, cause chaos and unrest, if the judgment does not toe their interest. Our democracy cannot be compromised by activities of these terrorist groups who are sponsored by desperate politicians, and are out to subvert our nascent democracy if their selfish interests are not satisfied.”
