Census: NPC Demarcates 3,230 Localities In Zamfara- Commissioner

The National Population Commission (NPC) has demarcated 3,230 localities to be included in the “Compendium of Localities” for the success of the 2023 population and housing census.

The workshop is organised to finalise work on the list of the localities identified during the commission’s Enumeration Area Demarcation(EAD) in the state.

The final list of localities of EAD would form part of the compendium to guide the 2023 National Population and Housing Census.

Muttaka-Rini said that participants drawn from various sectors would compile the localities identified during the EAD exercise.

He said the list would identify the localities base on local government areas: “showing coverage and location of each locality on the interactive maps.”

“The compendium of locality in census taking is a tool for census data dissemination as well as for national planning and development.

”The 2023 population and housing census results will be released up to the locality level,” the commissioner said.

He, therefore, sought the support of stakeholders, especially the state and local governments, traditional and religious leaders, the media as well as security agencies for the success of the exercise.

“The commission especially commends the state government, local government authorities, traditional institutions, the media, and other stakeholders for their support during the Enumeration
Area Demarcation and efforts to deliver more data for the locality level,” he said.

Earlier, the Zamfara Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Kabiru Gayari assured the commission of government commitment to support the exercise.

Gayari said that the compendium would be of great use to the state in the area of planning and effective service delivery.

The official said the compendium would assist the government in its effort to roll out a 20-year development plan for the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commission during the event presented soft and hard copies of the locality list to the 14 local government chairmen.

NAN also reports that the compendium of localities would be presented to President Muhammadu Buhari before the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
