Police Wife, 3 Others Arraigned For Alleged Assault
Police have arraigned a 25 year-old woman, Lydia Uwadiegwu, said to wife to a police Inspector attached to Olosan Police Division, Lagos, before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court, Ogba, for allegedly chopping off the ear of a Woman Sergeant Blessing A. O. Umongu.
Lydia was arraigned before the court presided over by Mrs. Jadesola Adeyemi Ajayi, alongside other three women, Ughaelunachi Justin a, 61, Oladimeji Seun, 30, and Chinelo Okoh, 30.
They are facing charges bordering on conspiracy, aiding and abetting, assault and false information.
The police alleged that all the defendants had on October 31, at Olosan Police Barrack, Mushin, Lagos, conspired among themselves to comit felony by causing grievous harm on the woman sergeant, Blessing Umongu.
The first defendant, Lydia was alleged to have bitten off Blessing’s left ear with the assistance of Justina and Seun.
Lydia was also alleged to have bath the woman sergeant with grinded pepper, causing her partial blindness. While the duo of Seun and Chinelo were alleged to have given false information about the woman sergeant, to Inspector Uwaduegwu, first defendant’s husband.
The offences according to the prosecutor, Inspector Raji Akeem, are contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 245, and 93 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The four women had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following the defendants’ not guilty plea, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Adeyemi Ajayi, admitted them to bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties each in the like sum.
Each of the sureties according to the magistrate must show evidence of tax payment for two years to the Lagos State government, with means of livelihood and their statement of accounts for two years.
The matter has been adjourned till January 7, 2019, for commencement of trial.
